My favorite Free and Open Source (FOSS) projects that I ACTUALLY use and recommend!

I'm not affiliated with any of these.

PC

I'm on Linux but some of these can run on Windows as well.

You can get most of these in your distro's software manager.

If you're downloading a Flatpak version of an app you may have to give it storage permissions for drag and drop and storage access to work (I just add "/mnt" in Filesystem -> Other files in Flatseal).

I recommend you download and install F-Droid for these for easy app management, NO registration needed. Most of these can still be installed via Google Play though. (Some are even on iOS).

Side note -> I recommend you to install a custom OS like LineageOS or GrapheneOS if you can. I've put my knowledge and pointers here (page coming soon).

App store

F-Droid or alternatively Neo Store

Sometimes you may need to add a custom repository to get an app to show on F-Droid, I will put a link for that, don't worry.

To add a repository to F-Droid open the F-Droid app, go to Settings (the cog-wheel in the lower right), then Repositories, tap the + button, and either scan the QR Code from there, or enter the repo link manually.

Here's a list of some extra repos for you to discover.

Get Google Play apps without needing an account or Google Play Services.

Honorable mentions

Consumer rights wiki

Not a software but a great place to check if a company is screwing their customers so you don't get screwed.

DaVinci Resolve

Professional video editing program that runs on Linux and has an awesome free version. I give it lots of credit for enabling me to switch over to Linux because I can still do my job video editing. Do note that your videos need to be in AV1 video codec, Opus or FLAC audio codec and mp4 container. If you're on a Debian-based distro, use makereselvedeb to repackage the original download so that it integrates well with your system. If you're using an AMD GPU you need to install an OpenCL package from your package manager.

GOG

Video game storefront that sells your favorite games WITHOUT DRM! That means you will actually own them forever because you get the installation files and don't need an internet connection. The GOG Galaxy application doesn't work natively on Linux but Heroic Games Launcher integrates perfectly with achievements, playtime, cloud saves and is very easy to use.

Steam (Valve)

Big contributor to the open-source ecosystem. Linux booster. Creator of hardware that respects you. One of the few corporations I actually like.

ProtonDB

Almost every game runs on Linux now but this site has always been useful. You can check how well games are supported and see useful tweaks or commands that people are using to make them run better.
